Memorial buying guide
The procedure for buying and installing a memorial in Scotland, made as straightforward as possible at a difficult time.
Step by step
| 1. Choosing a cemetery | In Scotland, burial grounds are managed by the local authority. Burial grounds in the Glasgow area are managed by Glasgow City Council. |
| 2. Buying a plot | If your family does not already own a plot, the first step is to contact your chosen burial ground directly and arrange this. |
| 3. Choosing a stone | Cemeteries have differing regulations on the type and style of memorial permitted. Browse our memorials or visit a branch, and we will help you choose a memorial that is fitting and meets the cemetery’s regulations. |
| 4. Choosing an inscription | We will show you examples of styles that work well and can suggest inscription text if you wish. |
| 5. Different faiths | We make memorials for a range of faiths and understand and respect the customs associated with these. |
| 6. Arranging installation | It can take several weeks to order, engrave and prepare your stone. We will advise you when it can be ready and arrange an installation date with you. |
| 7. Maintenance | We will advise you on the best methods for cleaning and caring for your memorial, and we also provide a cleaning and restoration service. |
